Literature Text

Oh sweet Justice
Strong is thy shield
Hard is thy sting
Make evil shake
And wicked quake
By vicious heart and callous deed
You may soon feel your own sting

Care not to stray far from the path
Lest you be consumed by thyn own wrath
Good men can wield such a blade
But only wise men sheath thy blade
For Justice reaps its own reward
Though Mercy requires no such sword
Were Justice shield's from us the evil
Only Mercy's light can heal
Ok so this is a bit cheese. Several weeks ago a friend asked me to take a personality test. Most of it was your standard meaningless drivel. But there was one question that stopped me cold. Are you more inclined to purse Justice, or give Mercy? I consider myself a peacemaker, and while I'm no pacifist, I always prefer a nonviolent solution to conflict. But I am also a fiercely protective person, and have no qualms about fighting for what's right, or rising to someone else's defense. This question forced me to reflect on my own principles. This poem is a result of these questions
